Shhh...It's a Secret Part 2...

This is the post for everyone who would like to make 2 blocks for Jodi from Pleasant Home. I mentioned it in this post. I was trying to think of a color combo for her and the first thing that came to mind was RED. She loves her red. Your squares can be made with any reds you have in your stash.
space
Here are the specifics
  • each person will send in 2 blocks
  • one block is a signature block: you can write your name, where you are from, special thoughts or well wishes
  • the other block is a 4 patch of all reds
  • each block is 4-1/2" unfinished
  • quarter inch seams
  • follow directions below

space
The 4 patch consists of 4 different red squares cut at 2-1/2 inches each

Here is the block 4-1/2 inches unfinished.

Close-up of the finished size.

The signature block starts with a 4-1/2 inch square of white fabric. You can use any white that you have...whether it be a plain white muslin or a tone on tone white where there is a little white pattern in the design.

You will also need 2 more red squares cut at 2-1/2 inches. These can be 2 different reds or more of the same red that you used in the 4 patch. If you have a lot of reds in your stash, it will make it more scrappy!

Place one 2-1/2 inch square in the upper left corner and one in the lower right corner.

Draw a pencil line as shown below. I used black ink so you can see it just for the tutorial.

Stitch following the pencil line.

Trim to 1/4 inch from seam.

and press open.

Now you can write your name, where you are from or a message to Jodi. What ever you'd like. It's great to use a fabric pen, but a fine point marker or pen works too. Just set the ink with an iron when you are done. If you need to stabilize the fabric to write on, just iron on a piece of freezer paper to the back side.

and here they are...an easy siggie block and 4 patch.

This is a quilt top that I made with Thimbleberries a long time ago. I didn't have a pattern, I just made it up as I went along. I sold it on ebay...now that I see this picture again, I want to make another one. This is the pattern I was thinking of using with all our squares!!!

Thanks again for doing this for Jodi. She is going to go nuts for the red and white quilt. One little extra tid bit...she loves cherries, so if you have any red cherry fabric!!!

Shhh...It's A Secret!! Jodi from Pleasant Home NO PEEKING

She better not be peeking...if you see her looking, tell her to click on another blog!!
space
I know most of you know Jodi from Pleasant Home. She and I "met" through blogging in the summer of 2008. I sent her a little tutorial on English paper piecing and she helped me start my blog and as they say...the rest is history. Through this last year and a half of countless emails and fun package to open, she truly has become the BFIHNM (I know it's a long one), but she is the Best Friend I Have Never Met. Blogging is a wonderful way to "meet" people and I'm sure glad I met her.
space
Here's where the secret comes in. As most of you know who read her blog...she hasn't been feeling well. If you haven't read her story, please visit her blog and give her some much needed hugs! Months of pain and 2 surgeries have left her a little down. So let's cheer her up!!!
space
I was wondering if you would like to make a block or 2 and send them to me to put together into a quilt for her. I have an idea for a block, but just need to know about how many would like to join in.
space
Here are the specifics:
  • sign up on this post
  • I'll do a post for a simple block and/or blocks this week (I'm thinking scrappy-1 siggie block and 1 four patch from each person
  • I'll email you my address
  • I'll keep everyone updated through a post or through a group email

Thanks a bunch,

~Karen~

Another Post for Terry...

I just received an email from Laurie from A Yankee Quilter. She is doing the most amazing thing for Terry (read the post I did earlier this morning). She is asking everyone to make a 9 1/2" block, send it to Laurie and she will put a quilt together for Terry and her family. She is also having a give away with 2 great prizes as an incentive.
space
She is also asking for a donation of a long arm quilter to finish the quilt. Please see Laurie's post here for all the information.
space
I know we would all like to help, especially after reading Terry's post that the hospital is over an hour away and she still has to get the kids off to school and be back home before school gets out. My heart breaks for her. This quilt will definitely be a source of comfort to let her know we all care and wish we were there to help.

Prayers Needed for a Friend...

space
I know some of you have already sent prayers over to Terry from Terry's Treasures, but for those of you who haven't heard, her husband had an accident with a bulldozer and his right leg had to be amputated below the knee. Please stop by her blog, leave her a message and keep her husband and her family in your prayers.
