Sew A Bow Tutorial...

The girls were invited to their dance teacher's bridal shower. I made up a big ice cream themed gift basket. The basket had 4 glass ice cream dishes, 4 ice cream soda glasses, spoons and all the goodies to go with it: 6 different sauces, sprinkles, nuts, cherries, ice cream scoop, straws and root beer soda for floats. I had it all wrapped up right before they were due to leave, but realized I didn't have a bow wide enough for the size of the basket. What's a girl to do...dip into her fabric stash of course!!! See below for a quick tutorial.

Decide how wide you would like the bow to be.
space
The formula for any width would be: double the desired size and add 1 inch.space

In this example, the finished bow is 3" wide, so cut a strip of fabric 7" x width of fabric (selvage to selvage). space

Fold over both long edges 1/2" to the wrong side and iron.

Fold entire piece in half length wise and iron. Stitch close to edge with matching thread. (I used black so you can see it)

Use pinking shears and cut the shorts ends straight across or make the points as shown below.

And there you have it...a quick bow made minutes before the party. If you're making a basket type gift, you can also hem a square of fabric to line the inside of the basket to match the bow.

We have another bridal shower, a wedding and a ton of birthdays all the way 'til the end of July, so I'd better get sewing on some bows!!space

Hope you have a great day,

~Karen~
